Overview
This role owns operating expense (opex) accounting for a mission-critical Pythonic orchestration and MCP platforms organization. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, you will manage the month-end close process for opex accounts and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
Responsibilities
- Own budget vs. actuals reporting, partnering with department leads to explain variances and keep stakeholders informed of spend.
- Manage the full operating expense cycle, including:
- Vendor bill payments (AP)
- Corporate card program
- Employee travel & expense reimbursements
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations for opex accounts as part of month-end close, consistent with GAAP.
- Assist with federal and state reporting requirements and tax filings, including:
- Corporate tax returns
- Sales tax registrations and filings
- 1099s
- Partner with department heads to improve how they track and forecast their budgets (build the process, not just operate it).
- Identify and drive automation and process improvements across AP, T&E, and close, using tools such as Ramp, Navan, and Rillet.
- Support ad hoc requests and projects, including system automations, process improvements, and research related to technical accounting topics.
Requirements
Must-haves
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally at a fast-growing software or tech startup.
- Hands-on experience owning AP, corporate card programs, and/or T&E processes (not only supporting someone else’s work).
- Experience with modern finance tools such as Ramp, Stripe, and Navan.
- Strong Excel/spreadsheet skills, including building and maintaining budget vs. actuals models.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Nice-to-haves
- CPA or actively working toward one.
- Experience with Rillet.
- Familiarity with BI tools like Looker.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary Ranges
- San Francisco Bay Area & NYC Metro: $123,000 - $173,000
- Washington D.C., Boston, LA Metro, Seattle: $116,000 - $160,000
- Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, & all other U.S. metros: $111,000 - $148,000
Actual base salary within the range depends on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Equity and benefits are not included in the range above; more details may be shared during the hiring process.
