Overview

This role is part of the sales and use tax team, supporting comprehensive transactional tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Responsibilities include completing the monthly compliance cycle in a complex multi-jurisdiction environment, supporting audit defense and reverse audits, providing tax consulting and planning, maintaining tax accounting processes, and contributing to special projects.

This position reports to the Indirect Tax Manager of Global Business Services (GBS). The role interfaces with internal and external contacts, including taxing authorities, vendors, and partners.

Work is remote from a home office. You must be willing to work the Eastern or Central US time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sales tax and related indirect tax compliance activities
  • Submit sales tax compliance data to partners in a timely manner to meet filing requirements
  • Complete sales tax compliance activities to support Global Business Services in meeting SOC service level agreements
  • Complete filing of refund claims identified in the account reconciliation process
  • Follow up on filed refund claims and receive funds within 365 days
  • Provide registration and license recommendations and requirements to team members to maintain SOC compliance
  • Participate in partner calls and partner sales tax compliance activities
  • Complete monthly and yearly nexus reviews

Tax Consulting / Strategic Planning

  • Provide complex multi-state and local tax advice through tax law research
  • Provide tax analysis, planning, control, and reporting for the business consistent with Siemens guidelines and requirements for contract negotiations
  • Research, analyze, and prepare multi-state business and affiliate state and local tax refund opportunities
  • Document, comply, monitor, evaluate, and update internal state and local tax policies and procedures; recommend alternatives to ensure compliance and reduce tax overspending
  • Recommend and implement process changes that reduce potential exposure

Tax Auditing / Reverse Audits

  • Perform day-to-day audit and consulting team activities to complete the audit cycle cost-effectively, accurately, and timely
  • Identify, communicate, and conduct strategic audits/refunds to recover sales/use tax exposure amounts and overpayments
  • File and pursue refund opportunities identified in external/internal audits and identified overpayments

Tax Processes and Accounting

  • Document, monitor, evaluate, and update internal desktop procedures and process maps for compliance activities
  • Recommend, drive, and follow through on compliance process improvements to increase efficiencies and reduce tax exposure
  • Execute GBS SOX review and reporting requirements
  • Prepare account reconciliations for assigned sales and use tax accounts timely and accurately
  • Complete monthly compliance metrics

Projects

  • Contribute to departmental goals and objectives to meet balance scorecard targets for financial, customer, process, and employee goals
  • Participate in the sales and business licenses tax compliance segment of migrations for new SOC migrations, including tasks such as:
    • Establishing tax filing calendars
    • Verifying data sources
    • Reviewing parallel tax returns
    • Verifying ICC payment methods and vendors

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (equivalent experience with other education will be considered)
  • 2+ years of sales & use tax compliance and audit experience
  • Ability to perform sales & use tax analysis and provide consulting around practices and procedures with internal and external customers
  • Experience with multi-state sales & use tax compliance activities
  • Ability to operate in multiple ERP systems (i.e., SAP)
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Compensation & Benefits

  • $66,973 to $114,811 (10%)
