Overview
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the period-end close process and performing routine accounting functions. This includes preparing account reconciliations, investigating variances, preparing and posting journal entries, and collaborating with various teams to resolve challenges. The role involves working with accounting and finance departments such as Treasury, Financial Planning and Analysis, Payroll, Tax, and subsidiaries to process intercompany transactions and perform audit controls with internal and external auditors.
This position reports to the Accounting Manager of Corporate Accounting and requires the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment when handling delegated assignments.
Responsibilities
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accurate financial information in the general ledger in compliance with GAAP.
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate significant variances or unexpected results, maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Prepare, review, and upload journal entries with supporting schedules; collaborate with stakeholders to streamline and automate journal entry workflows.
- Review and assess exception reports both quantitatively and qualitatively; investigate key variances.
- Assist in preparing documentation and responding to requests from external auditors and internal SOX teams.
- Own and improve departmental procedures and documentation; identify and implement operational efficiency opportunities.
- Lead meetings with internal teams and management to review and agree on account balances; ensure accruals are recorded and balances comply with GAAP.
- Update the general ledger system by adding, changing, or deleting accounts, cost centers, or locations as directed.
- Provide financial analyses and support for quarterly reviews, annual audits, and other external audits or consulting engagements.
- Serve as a liaison between Finance and other departments regarding profit and loss statement inquiries.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel and other tools (e.g., Power Query, Power Automate) to streamline accounting processes, improve data accuracy, and reduce manual effort.
- Implement new technologies within General Accounting to optimize workflows.
- Provide training and guidance to new General Accounting staff.
- Participate in special projects as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
- Perform other duties requiring independent judgment and skills.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in public or private accounting or finance.
- Public accounting or audit experience with a desire to obtain CPA license preferred but not required.
- At least 1 year of experience reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, or close deliverables preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, Power Query, and Copilot preferred but not required.
- Experience with general ledger and financial reporting systems; experience with NetSuite preferred but not required.
- Advanced understanding of US GAAP.
- Experience working with multiple entities or subsidiaries and intercompany transactions preferred.
- CPA designation or CPA track preferred.
