Overview
A company in the insurance and financial services industry is seeking a Senior Accountant I to support accurate and compliant cash and bank-related accounting. The organization focuses on helping policyholders plan for financial security and retirement, emphasizing long-term impact and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed bank reconciliations and maintain bank and general ledger accounts
- Reconcile cash activity between bank statements and the general ledger, resolving timing differences, errors, and unusual transactions
- Prepare, record, analyze, and report accounting transactions ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies and controls
- Support and improve reconciliation processes, internal controls, and standard operating procedures
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, Operations, Treasury, and Technology teams to investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with period-end close activities, balance sheet substantiation, reporting, and audit support
- Maintain accurate cash balance records and contribute to system and process improvements
- Provide guidance on complex reconciliation issues and best practices within the team
- Lead or support projects related to system implementations, process enhancements, or testing activities
- Document procedures, controls, and maintain internal control standards including ICFR
Requirements
- BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or operations with a focus on bank reconciliation or cash accounting
- Strong understanding of reconciliation processes, general ledger systems, and financial controls
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for resolving complex issues
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills for cross-team collaboration
- Experience with process improvements, system implementations, or transformation initiatives preferred
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $113,490 to $138,710, dependent on experience, qualifications, and location
