Overview

A full-time Senior Accountant position is available within the Finance department, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. The role involves working closely with the Controller and Financial Coordinator to ensure efficient accounting practices, reconcile monthly activity across one or more entities, and prepare for external audits and regulatory filings.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accounting department files and records.
  • Serve as staff contact for purchase cards, maintain policy, monitor for violations, cancel cards as needed, and manage spending limits.
  • Research and resolve problem invoices by interfacing with vendors, customer service, and other staff.
  • Prepare analyses of programs or accounts as needed for the Controller and CFO.
  • Reconcile sub-ledgers to general ledger account balances.
  • Continuously assess internal controls and conduct financial and budget analysis to ensure proper transaction recording.
  • Prepare for the annual budget cycle by building worksheets, meeting with teams, and forecasting needs; collaborate with other teams to forecast potential variances to the current year budget.
  • Prepare the monthly cash forecast for review.
  • May present to the Finance Committee.
  • Assist with month-end close and run monthly reports as required.
  • Prepare invoices, checks, and other records, reviewing for accuracy.
  • Assist with preparation of 1099s as needed.
  • Support special accounting projects as assigned.
  • Travel as needed, not expected to exceed 25% of the time.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business correspondence.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to compose business correspondence and effectively present information.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain professional working relationships with staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation preferred.
  • At least five years of progressively complex accounting experience.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, bill.com, or Divvy.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Experience with non-profit association processes and procedures.

Compensation

Salary range: $71,950 - $86,350 annually.
