Overview

This role supports the Accounting team in keeping financial records accurate, timely, and audit-ready. The Senior Accountant will prepare and analyze financial results for assigned areas, strengthen internal controls, lead accounting projects and system changes, and partner closely with FP&A, Tax, Payroll, AP/AR, Engineering/IT, and external auditors.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate, timely financial statements, reconciliation schedules, and supporting analysis (flux, variance, and trend) for assigned areas.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned areas, including researching and documenting technical accounting positions behind complex or non-routine transactions.
  • Lead accounting projects and system changes from planning through delivery.
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting practices, including automation that delivers data faster and reduces risk across teams.
  • Own internal controls for assigned areas: identify process/control deficiencies, design and implement solutions, and raise the standard for how the team operates.
  • Collaborate effectively across teams; stay positive under pressure, welcome feedback, and contribute to shared departmental goals.

How You’ll Collaborate

  • Partner with FP&A, Payroll, Tax, AP/AR, and Engineering/IT on data flows, system changes, internal controls, and month-end close dependencies.
  • Support internal and external audits, including testing people, process, and system controls.
  • Mentor less experienced teammates by reviewing their work, explaining your thinking, and presenting regularly to the team and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Independently ran month-end close and prepared financial statements for multiple areas, including complex or non-routine transactions, with limited review.
  • Hands-on NetSuite experience (or a related ERP), including journal entries, reconciliations, saved searches, and running the close in the system.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas (lookups, nested logic, pivots, and array formulas) for reconciliations and analysis.
  • Day-to-day experience using an AI tool for analysis, automation, or documentation, with sound judgment validating outputs.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and ability to explain accounting decisions clearly with supporting reasoning.
  • Understanding of people, process, and system controls, including a track record of leading a project or process improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience extending NetSuite and AI tooling (e.g., saved searches, workflows, scripting) to provide data faster and mitigate risk.
  • Experience with adjacent functional areas and technologies adjacent to accounting (e.g., revenue, billing, or subledger systems).
  • Familiarity with entity structure, close calendar, policies, and the systems connecting Accounting to the rest of the business—or the curiosity to learn them quickly.
  • Large-project planning skills, including major project plans, estimating, and communicating confidence in delivery.

First-Year Success Milestones

Within 1 month

  • Complete onboarding to close calendar, chart of accounts, policies, and NetSuite and Numeric (month-end close software) setup; shadow one full month-end close.
  • Take over reconciliations and journal entries for assigned accounts and complete them on the close calendar with reviewer sign-off.
  • Document people, process, and system controls for assigned areas; share a list of risks and questions with your manager.
  • Meet 1:1 with key partners (FP&A, Tax, AP/AR, and audit contacts) to learn needs and align on how you will work together.

Within 3 months

  • Prepare assigned financial statements and flux analysis independently for two consecutive closes with minimal review comments.
  • Present variance analysis that is clearly structured and explains drivers behind the numbers.
  • Provide assigned inputs to the budget schedule on time, with supporting detail and clearly stated assumptions.
  • Identify at least two process improvements, rank them by impact and effort, and implement one end to end.
  • Research and document the technical accounting position for one non-routine transaction or policy area; walk Accounting Managers through it.

Within 6 months

  • Enhance or redesign reconciliations to include substantial backup and clear explanation of work.
  • Lead one end-to-end project or system change: write the project plan, estimate work, state confidence in the timeline, and deliver.
  • Design and ship an automation (using NetSuite, Excel, and/or AI tools) that reduces manual effort in the close or reporting process and gets data to stakeholders faster.
  • Present regularly to the team (e.g., monthly) and take on additional accounting responsibilities.

Within 12 months

  • Become the recognized subject matter expert for your areas—consulted on complex accounting questions—while owning an expanded set of areas and meeting close deadlines.
  • Drive process improvements with measurable results (e.g., close days saved, hours of manual work removed).
