Overview
This role is fully remote.
The organization supports companies in the corporate finance and accounting space, including structured solutions for accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and audit management—particularly for venture-backed startups and other growth-oriented businesses that require GAAP and ASC 606 adherence.
The Senior Accounting Manager / Hands-On Controller oversees end-to-end accounting operations and financial management. The position combines tactical execution (including daily bookkeeping and payroll) with strategic oversight across revenue recognition, financial reporting, compliance, and tax strategy. This role helps establish scalable accounting systems and delivers accurate financial insights to support organizational growth and governance.
Responsibilities
- Ensure GAAP compliance; establish internal controls and design finance policies
- Own and execute ASC 606 revenue recognition policies
- Lead external audits; oversee tax strategy and tax compliance
- Ensure compliance with lender, investor, and federal grant requirements
- Manage equity accounting, including convertible notes and SAFEs
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and investor reporting
- Develop KPIs and perform cost control analyses
- Oversee inventory, job costing, and COGS accounting
- Manage full-cycle general ledger bookkeeping and account reconciliations
- Execute full-cycle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing
- Maintain fixed asset schedules
- Implement and maintain cloud-based finance and ERP systems
- Coordinate with external legal, accounting, lending, tax, and benefits partners
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7–10+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, preferably including public audit, Controller roles, or early-stage venture-backed startups
- Expertise in GAAP, ASC 606, inventory/WIP accounting, job costing, and equity accounting
- Proficiency with cloud accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, BILL, Gusto) and collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Google Workspace)
- Strong attention to detail, time management, communication skills, and the ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high-tech, battery, or manufacturing sectors
- Federal grant compliance experience
