Overview

This role provides strategic leadership and overall management for the Billing Department across all office locations. The position is fully remote.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the Billing Department to align with the organization’s overall objectives.
  • Lead initiatives to improve billing processes, enhance efficiency, and ensure the department leverages the latest technology and best practices.
  • Support and develop Billing Managers and their teams to maintain performance and processes while increasing skills.
  • Lead the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of technology solutions, workflow automation, and artificial intelligence tools to improve operational efficiency, data quality, productivity, and the overall billing experience.
  • Interact with Partners to understand and troubleshoot complicated billing issues and related pain points.
  • Identify and address areas for improvement within the billing function to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to enhance efficiency, client experience, and improve firm revenue cycle operations.

Management and Coordination

  • Audit the work of the billing function to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Supervise and mentor Billing Managers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
  • Assist with coordination of workflow within the billing department to ensure timely and accurate billing processes.
  • Oversee ongoing matter management with upon-completion dates, ensuring dates are accurate, regularly reviewed, and updated to support timely billing and inventory management.
  • Partner with Billing Managers, attorneys, and firm leadership to proactively identify and address aged WIP, unbilled inventory, and other revenue cycle risks, driving timely conversion of WIP to billed and collected revenue.
  • Collaborate with the Receivables team to manage and report on inventory for the firm.

Complex Billing Issues

  • Lead projects requiring broad conceptual judgment, initiative, and the ability to address and resolve complex billing issues.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for complex billing inquiries and disputes, providing expert guidance and resolution.

Billing Process Administration

  • Assist with administration of the billing process, including month-end closing procedure.
  • Ensure timely and accurate distribution of proformas and accompanying reports.
  • Supervise review and processing of proformas returned from attorneys into the accounting system.

Reporting and Data Management

  • Review various reports to administer deadlines and maintain data integrity, requiring continuous follow-up.
  • Assist with building and maintaining billing templates to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO or Director of Revenue Cycle Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or a combination of education and equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of management experience in a related field, with a focus on billing and financial management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a proven track record of driving strategic initiatives and managing high-performing teams.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of accounting principles in a service organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Elite 3E or other billing software preferred.

Expected Compensation Ranges

Compensation is commensurate with skill and experience and will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. Expected salary ranges for this position are:

  • California: $120,000–$244,000
  • Colorado: $110,000–$196,000
  • Connecticut: $95,000–$241,000
  • Illinois: $108,000–$210,000
  • Massachusetts: $120,000–$229,000
  • Maryland: $116,000–$176,000
  • Maine: $81,000–$188,000
  • Minnesota: $120,000–$198,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $130,000–$236,000
  • New York: $111,000–$241,000
  • Virginia: $78,000–$227,000
  • Vermont: $78,000–$227,000
  • Washington: $116,000–$220,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $154,000–$227,000

The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus. Bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed and dependent upon individual and firm performance.
