Overview
A Senior Credit Analyst is needed to join the Merchant Lending Credit team to support the responsible expansion of capital access for merchants. This role involves evaluating complex merchant credit opportunities across various lending products such as loans, lines of credit, and card-based products. The analyst will synthesize financial, operational, behavioral, and model-driven data to make clear lending recommendations and help improve risk assessment and decision-making processes.
This is a senior individual contributor position requiring autonomy, the ability to navigate ambiguity, and collaboration across multiple teams including Finance, Data Science, Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Recovery, and Support.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate complex merchant credit opportunities across loans, lines of credit, and card-based products.
- Review financial statements, bank statements, tax returns, and merchant performance data to assess creditworthiness and repayment capacity.
- Prepare clear, well-supported application recommendations outlining key risks, mitigants, and decision rationale.
- Handle sensitive financial and business information with discretion and integrity.
- Represent the credit perspective across the organization to help teams understand risk tradeoffs and improve product, policy, and operational decisions.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, Engineering, Compliance, Legal, and other teams to shape the future of merchant lending with a practical, merchant-centered risk approach.
- Identify opportunities to improve underwriting workflows, tools, decision frameworks, and quality controls, focusing on scalable systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, commercial lending, fintech lending, banking, or related fields.
- Experience evaluating small business or commercial cash advances, loans, lines of credit, or card-based products.
- Strong credit judgment and ownership with the ability to make concise, defensible recommendations by synthesizing quantitative and qualitative information.
- Ability to clearly and constructively represent credit perspectives with cross-functional partners.
- Proven ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional credit or operational initiatives from problem definition through implementation.
- Experience influencing and building strong working relationships across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Compliance, or similar teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain decisions, risk tradeoffs, and recommendations to cross-functional and senior stakeholders.
- Comfort working in fast-moving environments with changing products, processes, and priorities.
- Curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset with a bias toward improving systems and processes.
- Proficiency using data and analytical tools (e.g., SQL) to investigate credit performance, portfolio trends, or risk signals.
- Experience translating analytical findings into improvements in credit standards, policies, or operational processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in fintech lending, particularly small and medium business (SMB) or merchant financing.
- Experience using AI tools to enhance analysis, documentation, and workflows.
