Overview

This role provides corporate-level accounting support for a multi-state organization. Working in collaboration with the Controller, Corporate Accounting Manager, and staff, the Senior Accountant supports project cost accounting, financial statement preparation, trial balance reconciliations, audit activities, and other accounting needs as required. The position applies company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to manage controls and safeguards, budgets, and reporting systems to reduce risk and improve the accuracy of reported financial results.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting and financial records, systems (including non-financial systems), and activities to support effective and efficient use, data accuracy, and data integrity using generally accepted accounting procedures.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify deficient controls, duplicated effort, excess or extravagance, regulatory or legal non-compliance, fraud, or mismanagement practices.
  • Ensure compliance with ASC 842 by tracking lease schedules, preparing journal entries, and partnering with operations and legal on lease-related transactions.
  • Provide management reporting on asset utilization and related audit results; recommend improvements to financial activities.
  • Review accounts for discrepancies and perform reconciliation activities for differences.
  • Analyze operations, monitor trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and existing or future obligations related to project revenues or expenses.
  • Provide accounting support for large projects.
  • Prepare documentation and support for internal and external audits.
  • Support corporate closing processes, including analyzing accounts and transactions, applying GAAP to journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Create standard work processes and improve the accuracy and timeliness of the close.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and controls, including accounting policies and procedures, data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems, and adherence to corporate policies.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior accounting function.
  • Lease accounting experience following guidance of ASC 842.
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions purchase accounting calculations.
  • ERP knowledge and experience required; MS Dynamics 365 experience highly preferred.
  • Strong experience with general ledger functions and knowledge of the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • High-level and complex problem-solving skills with the ability to make informed decisions.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking, deductive and mathematical reasoning, and analytical and written/verbal comprehension skills to interpret data and resolve varying situations.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and self-directed, organized, and able to plan/prioritize work within time constraints and deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and other MS Office products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Dynamics 365 experience (highly preferred).
