Overview
A senior-level role is available for an International Pricing Analyst specializing in complex international air and ocean freight bids. This position involves collaborating closely with US sales leadership on bid strategy and with Operations Managers to balance P&L goals, supporting growth while maintaining business sustainability. The role leads major RFQs, indexed-rate bids, and project cargo opportunities, applying creative and solutions-oriented approaches to freight pricing.
This position offers work-from-home flexibility and can be based in Grand Rapids, MI; Chicago, IL; or Mt. Ephraim, NJ.
Responsibilities
- Lead pricing efforts on major RFQs, indexed-rate bids, and project cargo opportunities, including developing scenario models and competitive comparisons.
- Collaborate with US sales leadership on bid strategy and strategic selling; participate in customer-facing pricing discussions as appropriate.
- Work with Operations Managers to ensure P&L goals are met by balancing commercial competitiveness with sustainable margins and operational feasibility.
- Design innovative freight solutions such as consolidation planning and multi-modal structures to differentiate from rate-only competitors.
- Review incoming requests for operational, geographic, and commercial completeness; confirm intent with stakeholders before pricing.
- Analyze carrier, capacity, and rate market trends to provide actionable recommendations to leadership.
- Maintain disciplined follow-up on quotes, including pursuing targets and gathering feedback from sales and agents.
- Contribute to the development of rate libraries, dashboards, automations, and pricing templates as part of tooling enhancements.
Requirements
- Several years of direct, hands-on experience pricing international air and ocean freight, including ownership of RFQs or bids.
- Strong experience with domestic carriers, particularly LTL airport pickup and delivery.
- Working knowledge of US air and ocean freight markets, including major gateways (JFK, ORD, MIA, LAX, DFW), intermodal considerations, surcharge mechanics, and operational constraints affecting pricing.
- Creative and innovative approach to solutions design, capable of structuring wins beyond standard rate sheets.
- Strong technology skills, including advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, scenario modeling), Power BI, and practical use of AI tools to enhance analysis and communication.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly explain pricing decisions to senior leaders, sales teams, and carrier partners.
- Self-directed with the ability to manage competing deadlines independently.
- Bachelor's degree preferred but equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with indexed-rate bids (e.g., BAF mechanisms, WCI-based adders, floating-rate models).
- Project cargo pricing experience.
- Familiarity with CargoWise (CW1) or equivalent Transportation Management Systems.
- Experience with Power Automate.
- Industry experience in automotive, retail, or pharmaceutical sectors.
- Knowledge of cross-border US/Canada freight.
