Overview

This role involves helping build and operate a regulated banking accounting function during a pivotal period of growth. As the bank is currently in its formation phase, the Bank Controller will play a central part in establishing foundational processes and leading day-to-day accounting operations.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the bank accounting team by providing strategic direction, recruitment, and coaching as the function is established.
  • Oversee general ledger and daily operational accounting flows to ensure accurate and timely processing.
  • Manage integration of accounting systems and processes into the organization’s broader systems and processes.
  • Develop and run the regulatory reporting function, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of required filings, including:
    • FFIEC 041 Call Reports
    • Part 363 Annual Reports
    • Federal Reserve reporting
  • Ensure complete and timely monthly reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with cross-functional teams to support effective service delivery under an Intercompany Program Agreement, while maintaining independent oversight required for a regulated banking entity.
  • Coordinate the annual bank financial statement audit with external auditors.
  • Evaluate, improve, and implement tools for accounting/reporting automation in partnership with engineering and product teams.
  • Support financial analysis and other projects as required.

Requirements

  • Accounting designation such as CPA or CA
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, or Treasury-related areas
  • Minimum 5 years of people management experience
  • Experience building tools and processes and scaling an accounting team in a similar industry
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting
  • Proven experience in analysis, cash management, and modeling
  • Extremely detail oriented and a natural critical thinker
  • Strategic, goal driven, with a “can-do” attitude

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building and scaling accounting operations within a regulated environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay range (per year):
    • $185,000 – $245,000 for CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT
    • $164,000 – $224,000 for all other U.S. states
  • Employees new to the organization typically start at the beginning of the pay range.

Location

  • Remote-first with flexibility built in: Most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment.
  • Some positions may occasionally require in-person work at an office, and a few are office-based due to the nature of the work.
