Overview
This role is responsible for leading the operational build-out of a bank’s accounting and regulatory reporting function during the formation phase of a new banking entity. Reporting to the Bank CFO, the Bank Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure successful integration of accounting systems and processes, and develop the regulatory reporting function required for a regulated banking organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead and build the bank accounting function by recruiting, coaching, and providing strategic direction to the accounting team.
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including ownership of the general ledger and daily operational workflows.
- Integrate accounting systems and processes into the bank’s operations, ensuring alignment with existing organizational systems and processes.
- Serve as a primary liaison with cross-functional teams, ensuring effective service delivery under the Intercompany Program Agreement while maintaining the independent oversight necessary for a regulated banking entity.
- Oversee monthly reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, and ensure timely completion and submission.
- Build and maintain a controlled regulatory reporting function to support accurate and timely preparation of required filings, including:
- FFIEC 041 Call Reports
- Part 363 Annual Reports
- Federal Reserve reporting
- Coordinate the annual bank financial statement audit with external auditors.
- Drive process automation by partnering with engineering and product teams to evaluate, improve, and implement tools that support accounting and reporting automation.
- Support strategic analysis and related projects, including financial analysis as required.
Requirements
- Accounting designation such as CPA or CA
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, or Treasury-related areas
- Minimum 5 years of people management experience
- Experience building tools and processes and scaling an accounting team in a similar industry
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting
- Proven analysis, cash management, and modeling experience
- Extremely detail oriented with strong critical thinking skills
- Strategic, goal-driven approach with a “can-do” attitude

- Base pay grade: M
- Equity grade: USA 10
- Employees new to the organization typically come in at the start of the pay range. Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).
USA base pay range (per year):
- CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT: $185,000 - $245,000
- All other U.S. states: $164,000 - $224,000

Location
Remote-first with flexibility built in. Most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment. Some positions may occasionally require in-person work at an office, and a few may be office-based due to the nature of the work. All new hires will be invited to attend an in-person onboarding experience.
