Overview

This role involves building and leading the bank accounting function during a pivotal growth phase. As the banking entity is in its formation stage, the Bank Controller will play a central role in establishing foundational processes and ensuring operational readiness.

The Bank Controller reports to the Bank CFO and will lead day-to-day operational duties for the Bank Accounting Team, including managing the general ledger and daily operational workflows, integrating accounting systems and processes into existing organizational systems, and developing the regulatory reporting function.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Build and lead the Bank accounting team, providing strategic direction, recruitment, and coaching as the function is established.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as a primary liaison with cross-functional teams to ensure effective service delivery under the Intercompany Program Agreement while maintaining independent oversight required for a regulated banking entity.
  • Financial Reporting: Oversee monthly reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, ensuring timely completion and submission.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Build a controlled regulatory reporting function to ensure timely and accurate preparation of required filings, including:
    • FFIEC 041 Call Reports
    • Part 363 Annual Reports
    • Federal Reserve reporting
  • Audit Management: Coordinate with external auditors to support completion of the annual bank financial statement audit.
  • Process Automation: Partner with engineering and product teams to evaluate, improve, and implement tools that drive accounting and reporting automation.
  • Strategic Analysis: Manage additional financial analysis and projects as required.

Requirements

  • Accounting designation such as CPA or CA
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, or Treasury-related areas
  • Minimum 5 years of people management experience
  • Experience building tools and processes and scaling an accounting team in a similar industry
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting
  • Proven analysis, cash management, and modeling experience
  • Extremely detail oriented with strong critical thinking
  • Strategic, goal-driven, focused leadership with a “can-do” attitude

Compensation & Benefits

Base Pay Grade - M

Equity Grade - USA 10

  • Employees new to the organization typically come in at the start of the pay range.
  • Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical coverage, plus dental and vision for employees and dependents.

USA base pay range (per year):

  • $185,000 - $245,000 (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT)
  • $164,000 - $224,000 (all other U.S. states)

Remote-first with flexibility built in

Most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment. Some positions may occasionally require in-person work at an office, and a few are office-based due to the nature of the work. All new hires will be invited to attend an in-person onboarding experience.
