Overview

The organization is seeking a self-motivated and resourceful Bank Controller to join during a pivotal period of growth. As the bank is currently in its formation phase, this role will be central to building the accounting function and establishing day-to-day operations.

Reporting to the Bank CFO, the Bank Controller will lead day-to-day operational duties of the bank accounting team, including managing the general ledger and daily operational flows, supporting integration of accounting systems and processes into the organization’s broader systems and processes, and developing a regulatory reporting function.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the bank accounting team, providing strategic direction, recruitment, and coaching.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with cross-functional teams, ensuring effective service delivery under the Intercompany Program Agreement while maintaining the independent oversight necessary for a regulated banking entity.
  • Oversee monthly reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, ensuring timely completion and submission.
  • Build a controlled regulatory reporting function to ensure timely and accurate preparation of required filings, including:
    • FFIEC 041 Call Reports
    • Part 363 Annual Reports
    • Federal Reserve reporting
  • Coordinate the annual bank financial statement audit with external auditors.
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to evaluate, improve, and implement tools that drive accounting and reporting automation.
  • Manage additional processes and functions as required, including financial analysis and projects.

Requirements

  • Accounting designation such as CPA or CA
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, or Treasury-related areas
  • Minimum 5 years of people management experience
  • Experience building appropriate tools and processes and scaling an accounting team in a similar industry
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting
  • Proven analysis, cash management, and modeling experience
  • Extremely detail oriented with strong critical thinking
  • Strategic, goal-driven, and focused with a “can-do” attitude

Compensation & Benefits

  • Employees new to the organization typically come in at the start of the pay range.
  • Base pay ranges per year:
    • $185,000 - $245,000 (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT)
    • $164,000 - $224,000 (all other U.S. states)
  • Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits including:
    • 100% subsidized medical coverage
    • dental and vision for you and your dependents
  • Equity Grade: USA 10
  • Base Pay Grade: M

Location

Remote-first with flexibility built in. Most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment. Some positions may occasionally require in-person work at an office, and a few are office-based due to the nature of the work. All new hires will be invited to attend an in-person onboarding experience.

For positions based in San Francisco or Los Angeles, the organization considers qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records, as required by law.
