Overview
This role is part of the Enterprise Risk & Internal Audit department, which safeguards the organization's operations and long-term success by identifying, assessing, and monitoring risk across the business. Responsibilities include internal audits, regulatory assurance, fraud prevention, crisis planning, maintaining controls, tracking key risk indicators, and ensuring readiness for external reviews.
The position is within the Model Risk Management (MRM) team, focusing on underwriting and credit risk validation—the core pillar of the MRM framework. It requires a seasoned technical leader who can build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team while remaining hands-on in validating complex machine learning models.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the underwriting and credit risk validation sector, including mentoring a team of quantitative professionals and setting strategic direction.
- Perform rigorous, independent validations of sophisticated machine learning models used in underwriting and credit risk management.
- Conduct technical reviews assessing conceptual soundness, data integrity, and performance stability through testing, in-depth reviews, and continuous monitoring.
- Identify critical model weaknesses and collaborate with model owners and developers to remediate validation findings.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to implement and enhance the enterprise-wide Model Risk Management framework.
- Coordinate with Accounting, Internal Controls, and Compliance teams to ensure model activities comply with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum 9 years of professional experience in technical roles such as model development, model validation, or quantitative analytics.
- Deep expertise in machine learning modeling, underwriting, and credit risk management.
- Advanced proficiency in Python scripting and SQL for manipulating and analyzing large, complex datasets.
- Proven leadership experience in hiring, managing, and mentoring quantitative teams.
- Ability to balance high-level strategic oversight with detailed, hands-on technical work.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, or Data Science.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and critical thinking.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Grade: Q
- Equity Grade: 14
- Base salary range for California, Washington, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut: $255,000 - $315,000 per year.
- Base salary range for all other U.S. states: $227,000 - $287,000 per year.

- This is a remote-first position within the United States.
- Employees can work from almost anywhere within their country of employment.
