Overview
This role is responsible for increasing audience monetization across primary business lines—Affiliate, Advertising, and E-commerce—while preserving long-term audience trust. The position is a player-coach role, leading a small team of analysts and partnering closely with Revenue, Product, and Marketing leaders to define KPIs, run conversion experiments, and build scalable attribution frameworks. Reporting line: Executive Director, Data Analytics.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and onboard a team of two direct reports, supporting their career growth.
- Analyze affiliate revenue drivers across all content touchpoints (including merchant commissions, EPC, conversion rates, and partner yield).
- Serve as analytics lead for the newly launched Wirecutter Store, reporting on:
- unit economics
- merchandise performance
- cart funnel analytics
- order value (AOV)
- customer acquisition and repeat purchase metrics
- Partner with Ad Ops and Advertising teams to track ad yield (RPM, eCPM), fill rates, and ad unit viewability; balance display and custom content revenue with user experience and page speed.
- Evaluate trade-offs between affiliate links, ad placements, and Wirecutter Store product placements to develop a holistic monetization framework that maximizes total revenue per user.
- Lead recurring commercial reporting for Wirecutter leadership, communicating complex multi-channel revenue dynamics, forecasting, and strategic expansion opportunities.
- Support and demonstrate understanding of journalistic independence and a commitment to the mission of seeking the truth and helping people understand the world.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in revenue or e-commerce analytics, including direct experience supporting affiliate marketing, digital advertising, or online retail operations.
- 2+ years of people management experience.
- 3+ years of experience analyzing diverse revenue models, including affiliate marketing, programmatic/direct digital advertising, and DTC e-commerce operations.
- 3+ years of experience in A/B testing, conversion rate optimization (CRO), and pricing/placement experiments.
- Advanced mastery of SQL and experience with BI/data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker) to build end-to-end commercial dashboards and financial reporting models.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience working with e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Magento), ad tech/SSP platforms, and affiliate network platforms.
- Proficiency in Python or R.
- Quantitative degree in Economics, Business Analytics, Finance, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual base pay range: $140,000 - $160,000 USD.
- For roles in the U.S., eligibility for variable pay such as an annual bonus and restricted stock may apply, depending on the role.
