Overview

A growing organization in the private markets technology sector is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Revenue Accountant. This role involves managing the full revenue cycle, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant revenue recognition under ASC 606, and driving operational rigor in close processes, reconciliations, and reporting.

Responsibilities

ASC 606 Technical Accounting

  • Perform contract reviews under ASC 606, including identifying performance obligations, standalone selling price considerations, and assessing contract combinations and modifications.
  • Prepare and maintain revenue recognition schedules, including revenue waterfalls, deferred revenue, contract assets, and contract liabilities.
  • Draft and support technical accounting memos related to revenue recognition and non-routine transactions.
  • Research and document revenue impacts of new products, pricing models, and contract terms; escalate items requiring further review.

Revenue Operations & Month-End Close

  • Manage recurring revenue accounting activities during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and cutoff procedures.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations for revenue-related accounts and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Prepare deferred revenue roll-forwards and analyses with movement explanations and tie-outs to billings, collections, and recognized revenue.
  • Conduct flux analysis on revenue and related balance sheet accounts, providing clear commentary for management.
  • Collaborate with Billing to resolve invoicing, collections, and revenue mismatches and maintain clean order-to-cash data flow.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Support internal revenue reporting, including recognized revenue, deferred revenue, billings, and backlog metrics.
  • Assist FP&A with revenue forecasting inputs, variance analysis, and ad hoc analyses.
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting requests from Billing, FP&A, and leadership with accurate data.

Controls, Systems & Process Improvement

  • Execute and strengthen revenue-related internal controls, including SOX compliance where applicable.
  • Support external and internal audit requests, including preparation of PBCs, walkthroughs, and sample testing.
  • Maintain and enhance revenue systems and tools, reviewing revenue arrangements, rules, and configurations.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve and automate revenue processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3–4 years of progressive experience in revenue accounting and/or revenue operations with hands-on ASC 606 application.
  • Experience managing balance sheet reconciliations, deferred revenue analyses, and month-end close activities for revenue accounts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across finance and non-finance teams.
  • Proven track record of improving or automating accounting processes.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) and Zone Billing.
  • Background in SaaS, subscription-based, or tech-enabled services industries; fund administration or financial services experience is a plus.
  • SOX compliance experience.
  • Experience supporting external audits.

Nice to Have – AI Fluency

  • Hands-on experience using AI tools such as Claude (Anthropic) to draft and refine technical accounting memos, including ASC 606 position papers and contract review summaries.
  • Ability to use AI assistants to accelerate contract review, summarize agreements, extract key terms, and draft reconciliation commentary.
  • Judicious use of AI with validation against source documents and authoritative guidance, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Interest in applying AI to improve revenue accounting processes, documentation, and reporting.
