Overview

The organization is seeking an Account Manager to build long-term, trusting relationships with small business clients. In this role, you will oversee a portfolio of assigned bookkeeping clients, lead the client transition process for assigned clients, and develop new business opportunities from existing clients.

You will serve as the business partner and accounting department for small businesses—answering client questions, identifying opportunities, and liaising between clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned bookkeeping and payroll clients
  • Oversee the end-to-end client acquisition process, from client referral to platform onboarding, ensuring a strong client experience and ongoing support throughout the process
  • Conduct outreach and follow up with client referrals to maximize conversion to service
  • Negotiate contracts and close agreements to meet client needs and growth targets
  • Assist with client onboarding onto platforms and virtual tools
  • Build and maintain trusting, long-lasting advisor relationships with clients
  • Communicate bookkeeping and/or payroll results to support tax professionals who prepare small business tax returns
  • Proactively leverage available resources and request help when needed
  • Maintain a substantial book of business with strong client retention and revenue per client

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years account management experience
  • Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting theory, and payroll theory/payroll taxation
  • Comfort working under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with multiple accounting/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., QBO, Xero, Sage)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Strong research skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance
  • 2+ years accounting or bookkeeping experience
  • Basic tax knowledge
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills, including strong verbal and written communication, listening, negotiation, and presentation abilities
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) or workflow management software (e.g., Salesforce or other)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range: $25.10 - $37.64/Hr.
  • Local minimum wage laws apply.
  • Individual pay decisions may depend on job-related factors including experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work is performed.
  • Successful candidates may participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan.
