Overview

This role is responsible for completing and monitoring ledgers through the bankruptcy process on residential mortgage loans to minimize potential losses and preserve the lien-holder’s interests. Work must be completed in adherence to applicable investor timelines and in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, as well as all US state and federal laws and regulations where the organization operates.

The approved target pay range for this position is $26-$27/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and complete ledgers with a high degree of accuracy for bankruptcy processes, including:
    • Acquisitions
    • Proof of Claims
    • Notice of Final Cures
    • Motions for Relief
    • Agreed Orders
    • Notices of Default
    • Closings
    • Coordinate corrections as necessary on any bankruptcy chapters or processes.
  • Verify and research borrower payment history and resolve payment posting discrepancies (ledger balancing).
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls from bankruptcy attorneys and/or other interested parties regarding residential mortgage accounts in the bankruptcy process.
  • Research and remediate files by researching and correcting Fiserv/Sagent items; also research servicer data and images for resolution.
  • Receive, process, and document bankruptcy materials throughout all bankruptcy stages, including creating and ordering documents required for the process.
  • Audit, review, and complete setup and filing activities accurately and thoroughly, including:
    • Motions for Relief
    • Proof of Claims
    • Transfer of Claims
    • Reaffirmations
    • Notice of Final Cures
    • Post-Petition Fee notices
    • Payment Change Notices
    • The closing process
    • Coordinate corrections as necessary on any bankruptcy chapters.
  • Handle documentation and analysis processes for setup and filing activities for the items listed above.
  • Gather and upload documents such as assignments of mortgages, deeds, notes, and other documents required for filing actions.
  • Respond to inquiries from internal departments regarding bankruptcy-related issues, including highly escalated inquiries.
  • Handle more complex tasks and perform manual calculations of figures such as Motions for Relief and Proof of Claim figures.
  • Provide management with root case analysis and proposed solutions related to bankruptcy agreements/disputes/process/research inquiries.
  • Work with management on multiple projects and coordinate efforts with project management and IT related to bankruptcy processes and/or support groups (e.g., Loan Admin, Loan Application Support, Cash Management, Escrow Department).
  • Identify process gaps within bankruptcy processes, recommend continuous improvement opportunities, and implement approved solutions.
  • May have signing authority to sign bankruptcy documents on behalf of the organization.
  • Serve as the department “Trainer” and provide training on multiple bankruptcy processes as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong math skills for manual calculations of figures such as Motions for Relief and Proof of Claim figures.
  • Ability to manage work to meet strict deadlines.
  • Experience balancing ledgers; advanced math/accounting skills; possible accounting background.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong drive to accomplish goals with a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure and changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and quality in loan evaluation.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work with limited supervision.
  • Strong understanding of the bankruptcy process.
  • Ability to make decisions that have moderate impact on immediate work unit.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule on a short-term basis.
  • Ability to network and work with various other default groups to research and find solutions.
  • Ability to complete thorough research and be resourceful.
  • Able to research/locate prior servicer data within all Acquisition folders.
  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience required; bachelor’s degree in related field in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Three to five (3-5) years’ of bankruptcy experience in the banking, finance, or mortgage industry.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience balancing ledgers.
