Overview

A Senior Director role is available within a Business and Technology Insights group, focusing on IT Financial Management (ITFM). This position involves providing thought leadership and actionable insights to CIOs and technology finance leaders on topics such as technology budgeting, spend transparency, cost optimization, AI and cloud economics, and value-focused governance. The role requires hands-on experience supporting CIO organizations and expertise in IT finance disciplines rather than general corporate FP&A.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative, thought-provoking insights addressing CIO priorities and challenges in IT financial management.
  • Serve as an authority on financial management of technology budgets and business outcome-driven initiatives.
  • Deliver best and emerging practices to help CIOs manage finances, reduce operating costs, and achieve positive business outcomes.
  • Present IT financial management content in one-to-one and group settings, including client presentations and industry events.
  • Create predictions and scenarios about the future of ITFM and advise CIOs on implications and actions.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis to identify root causes of client challenges and reframe thinking to advance strategy.
  • Lead thought leadership efforts and contribute to evolving research agendas.
  • Research and analyze market trends to provide actionable insights to clients and vendors.
  • Provide sales support by representing the market voice and helping drive client engagement.
  • Review content for quality and timeliness.
  • Build credibility as an industry expert representing research methodology and strategy.
  • Participate in innovation, ideation, and research discussions; collaborate with peers.
  • Identify and implement research process improvements.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members.
  • Maintain a client-centric approach, encouraging frequent engagement with insights and interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; graduate degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of relevant industry or field experience in finance or leadership roles.
  • At least 3 years of experience specifically in IT Finance roles supporting IT, Technology, or CIO organizations (not general enterprise FP&A).
  • Demonstrated experience with IT budgeting, cost structures, and components such as run vs change and infrastructure/application/platform costs.
  • Hands-on experience with IT cost transparency tools or TBM/ITFM tooling (e.g., Apptio, Cloudability, Nicus, MagicOrange, YäRKEN).
  • Experience building chargeback/showback models, allocation methodologies, or service unit costing.
  • Understanding of cloud consumption economics, including AWS/Azure/GCP billing, reserved instance/savings plan decisions, and AI workload cost drivers.
  • Strong knowledge of IT finance components including AI and ITFM tools.
  • Solid understanding of IT budgeting and cost benchmarking.
  • Expertise in IT costing, cost allocation, chargeback/showback, and cost models.
  • Strong grasp of accounting fundamentals, including chart of accounts and cost centers.
  • Experience with spend analysis covering fixed/variable costs, consumption spend (cloud and AI), and run/project costs.
  • Familiarity with cost evaluation and reduction strategies.
  • Hands-on cloud financial management experience, ideally with FinOps practices linking ITFM, TBM, and cloud unit economics.
  • Expertise in at least two of the following areas:
    • Governing emerging AI/GenAI spend
    • Managing the shift from Opex to Capex
    • Transitioning from projects to products
    • IT Asset Management (ITAM), IT Service Management (ITSM), or related capabilities
  • Executive presence with ability to establish credibility with executives and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage complex work at pace with high-quality output.
  • Excellent research and English writing skills; fluency in a second language is a plus.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data, apply frameworks, and defend conclusions.
  • Effective communicator capable of explaining complex concepts simply.
  • Comfortable presenting at both large and small-scale events.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural global team.
  • Learning agility and ability to navigate matrixed environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% where applicable.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated base salary range: $172,000 - $202,500 USD (actual salary may vary based on education, experience, and location).
