Overview

Location: Chicago Office or Remote, North America (US & Canada)

Employment Type: Full-time/Permanent

Travel: Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 5% is required.

This role supports finance process automation with a focus on tax compliance and strategy for North American operations. The organization provides finance automation solutions that streamline working capital processes including Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, Cash Flow Management, and Treasury across cloud and SAP environments.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile all tax-related general ledger accounts monthly, ensuring accuracy and detailed backup.
  • Reconcile customer sales and tax details across systems such as SAP and Avalara to ensure accurate sales tax filings; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure timely filing of all required sales tax returns and corporate income tax returns, and timely payment for U.S. and Canadian entities.
  • Review and assign product tax codes for various products and services to ensure correct sales tax charges.
  • Manage customer exemption certificates and collaborate with billing to resolve sales tax issues on invoices.
  • Coordinate with external tax consultants to provide quarterly and annual tax data for corporate income tax estimates and returns.
  • Prepare monthly Revenue by State reports and work with billing to correct revenue reporting issues.
  • Prepare monthly Fixed Assets by State reports to support annual tax filings.
  • Prepare year-end Form 1099-MISC tax filings for applicable suppliers.
  • Record cash postings and prepare journal entries for all tax-related activities.
  • Represent the organization in audits by federal, state/provincial, and local tax authorities.
  • Interpret and apply domestic and international tax concepts and regulations.
  • Analyze financial data to assess tax impact of business opportunities.
  • Perform other tax-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business; Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience focused on tax accounting, including experience with at least one tax preparation suite in the technology and software industry.
  • Detailed knowledge of U.S. tax legislation and accounting principles; knowledge of non-U.S. direct and indirect tax statutes may be required.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel), ERP systems (SAP), and tax compliance systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interpret business periodicals and governmental regulations.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to handle a variety of concrete variables.
  • High attention to detail and ability to deliver accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members, demonstrating a positive attitude and respect for others’ opinions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range (United States): $80,000 - $100,000 annually. Actual salary will be determined based on location, skills, experience, education, training, and market considerations.

Location
