Overview
This role involves supervising the Patient Accounts and Accounts Receivable functions within the revenue cycle, focusing on back-end processes from patient discharge through final payment. The supervisor ensures efficient account resolution, timely reimbursement, and minimizes revenue loss by leading insurance follow-up and denials management efforts. The position requires collaboration with payers and internal teams to improve claim resolution, track denial trends, and maintain compliance with payer guidelines and organizational policies.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily patient accounts and accounts receivable operations related to back-end revenue cycle functions
- Manage insurance follow-up processes to ensure timely and accurate claim resolution
- Lead denials management, including identifying and tracking denial trends
- Coordinate with payers to resolve outstanding claims and escalations
- Monitor employee performance and productivity metrics to ensure team efficiency and accountability
- Oversee account resolution workflows to improve efficiency and reduce aging accounts receivable
- Collaborate with internal teams to reduce denials and improve reimbursement outcomes
- Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies
- Oversee claims follow-up processes for assigned departments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations
- Perform billing audits to verify adherence to internal policies and external regulations
- Communicate effectively with commercial, federal, and state insurance carriers
- Develop and maintain knowledge of payer pre-authorization, pre-certification, billing policies, and requirements
- Develop and implement remediation plans to meet team goals
- Work with management to develop and monitor monthly work strategies and productivity goals
- Manage human resources activities including recruiting, hiring, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Business required; equivalent years of experience may substitute for education
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting or business office experience
- Experience working with various insurance companies and extensive knowledge of billing and collections for commercial and governmental plans
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly to move objects
- Must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas
- This is a security-sensitive position subject to background review in accordance with Texas Education Code and Government Code
