Overview
The Tax Data Management Lead will support the Tax Data Management team by serving as a functional subject matter expert (SME) across tax data, proactive case processes, and robotic process automation (RPA). This role provides support for team questions and helps ensure timely and accurate resolution of customer inquiries, while contributing to team efficiency, consistency, and success.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary technical backup for the team, supporting daily operations and performance monitoring.
- Launch, manage, and/or approve monthly and ad hoc mass proactive case campaigns across Tax using RPA tools, based on standard cycles, agency communications, and internal business needs.
- Act as a functional SME by providing direction, answering team questions, and assisting with training, documentation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Lead strategic analysis and reporting by identifying trends and opportunities, developing meaningful metrics, improving data consistency and case execution, and supporting additional projects as needed.
- Analyze and interpret tax and payroll data at the employer and employee level to identify data issues or opportunities for proactive resolution.
- Collaborate cross-functionally across the organization as a subject matter resource for tax code setup, rate research, and other tax-related inquiries; provide guidance to support accurate and compliant tax configurations.
- Assist with report interpretation (e.g., PBI) and recommend resolution strategies to maintain accuracy and compliance.
- Provide timely, professional responses to internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Identify trends and report recurring issues or opportunities for improvement to leadership.
- Contribute to special projects, team initiatives, and process enhancements aligned with departmental goals.
- Meet quality and productivity metrics while supporting a positive, collaborative team environment.
Required Competencies / Skills
- Proven experience with RPA and case automation tools, with the ability to manage complex batch-driven processes.
- Self-motivated and proactive; able to take initiative and drive work forward independently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset and attention to detail.
- Root cause analysis experience; comfortable making decisions with limited information.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
- Strong understanding of payroll tax rules, including multistate and SUI requirements, and tax data management processes.
- Knowledge of quality assurance principles, techniques, and best practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer service and internal collaboration.
- Professional, dependable approach with ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive issues.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with an emphasis on prioritization and follow-through.
- Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with the ability to build effective relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills required.
Qualifications
- Associate degree.
- 2+ years of payroll tax experience.
- Payroll tax outsourcing experience preferred.
- Working knowledge and language of Payroll and Payroll Tax functions.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Workday, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms preferred.
