Overview

This role involves leading tax reporting, compliance, and strategy for a financial services organization that provides financing for residential solar PV customers, including battery storage systems.

The organization is seeking a tax professional with thorough experience in renewable energy projects and finance—strongly preferred is experience with residential solar projects, including relevant ownership structures and tax equity transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead direct and indirect tax functions, including tax assessment, billing, collection, and filing across multiple state and local jurisdictions.
  • Manage relationships with external tax compliance partners and software to ensure timely filing of all sales and property tax returns.
  • Monitor and propose options to reduce tax exposure and administrative costs; provide advice on tax structures to support business decisions.
  • Establish processes for key deliverables and lead continuous improvement activities to ensure effective, efficient execution.
  • Oversee and ensure timely and complete monthly close; support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including preparation of annual financial statements.
  • Serve as a reviewer on process creation and enhancements, including SOX and internal control matters, both internally and externally.
  • Manage deferred tax accounting treatment and financial reporting under US GAAP; create journal entries for advanced topics within your experience.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations, Capital Markets, Structured Finance, Financial Planning and Analysis) to understand key organizational processes.
  • Drive process change and efficiencies by optimizing processes, identifying opportunities for automation, and building for scale—ensuring solutions comply with tax law, GAAP, and company policies.
  • Embrace the use of artificial intelligence to drive process efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related area.
  • 10+ years progressive tax, tax accounting, and finance experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and databases.
  • Ability to execute in a dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding environment.
  • Ability to influence across the organization and interact at all levels.
  • Knowledge of accounting for residential solar assets, including construction, leases, and PPA agreements.
  • Knowledge of federal income tax, state income tax, state and local taxes, and investment tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.
  • Experience with partnership accounting, including tax equity structures.
  • Experience with internal controls and process improvement.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Experience with revenue recognition policies and technical accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of tax law and tax accounting under US GAAP.
  • Knowledge of financial systems, analysis methodologies, and technical standards applicable to corporate accounting and finance.
  • Strong Excel skills, including data sorting and manipulation; mastery of pivot tables, lookups, and Power Query.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree.
  • CPA.
  • Experience with NetSuite.
  • Experience in the financial services or banking industries, including ABS transactions, AFS Loan Assets, IR Hedges and related accounting.
  • Accounting and data automation, including macro and artificial intelligence experience.
  • “Big Four” experience.
  • Korean bilingual.

Compensation & Benefits

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the anticipated annual base salary for this position is:

  • Zone 1 (Bay Area, NYC): $208,100 – $234,100
  • Zone 2 (CA, NJ, NY): $190,700 – $214,600
  • Zone 3 (All others): $173,400 – $195,100

The applicable salary range is based on the employee’s primary work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other business-related factors.

The salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. A target salary range is for CA positions only and should not be interpreted as an offer of compensation.
