Overview
A well-established regional accounting firm is seeking a Tax Manager with specialized experience in fiduciary tax returns, focusing on trust, estate, gift, and individual tax compliance and consulting for high net-worth clients. This role involves leading and managing all phases of client tax advisory and compliance engagements, including project management, technical review, staff supervision, tax research, and client relationship management.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial and final reviews of tax work products for individual, trust, estate, and gift returns.
- Serve as the primary client point of contact.
- Identify opportunities for value-added services by understanding client business needs.
- Communicate staffing and workload issues to resource planning.
- Confirm assignment objectives, scope, and work plans with clients.
- Resolve work product issues using firm resources.
- Develop and manage strategies to meet all client needs.
- Research and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Coach and mentor staff to enhance skills and career development.
- Pursue new clients and cross-sell firm services to existing clients.
- Support partner team in strategy development, planning, and budgeting.
- Prepare and review monthly client billing.
- Anticipate and resolve complex tax-technical issues.
- Manage expectations regarding project deliverables and deadlines.
- Support business development by nurturing existing relationships and identifying new opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification.
- Minimum of 8 years of tax preparation and review experience.
- Expertise in individual, trust, estate, and gift tax returns.
- Strong project management, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Ambition for career advancement with a goal toward future firm ownership.
- Excellent work ethic and a sense of humor.
- Interest or ability in business development and expanding client relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CCH Axcess Tax and CCH Engagement software.
- Experience leading teams.
Location
This position offers a flexible work structure with options for hybrid work based out of Chapel Hill or fully remote.
