Overview
Seasonal Tax Preparer role focused on preparing accurate tax returns for individuals and small businesses, delivering exceptional customer service, and staying current with applicable tax regulations.
Responsibilities
- Tax preparation
- Prepare individual and small business tax returns accurately and efficiently.
- Review financial records (e.g., income statements and documentation of expenditures) to determine required forms.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Customer service
- Address client concerns and questions in a timely manner.
- Conduct client interviews to gather information related to the client’s tax situation.
- Explain tax return outcomes and provide tax planning advice.
- Compliance and accuracy
- Stay updated on current tax laws and regulations through ongoing education and training.
- Verify the accuracy of data entered into tax software.
- Ensure returns are prepared in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Documentation and recordkeeping
- Maintain organized and accurate records of client interactions and tax returns.
- Ensure all required documents are filed correctly and securely.
- Keep client files up to date and follow up on missing information.
- Training and development
- Participate in training sessions and continuing education to maintain professional credentials.
- Stay informed about changes in tax laws and software updates.
- Collaboration
- Work with other tax professionals and office staff to support seamless workflow.
- Assist in mentoring and training junior staff members as needed.
- Assist in marketing execution.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Superior communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Must have PTIN or eligible to receive.
Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in tax preparation.
Physical Requirements
- Desk-based work for periods of time.
- Some overtime and weekend work may be required, especially during tax season.
Work Environment
