Overview

This seasonal Tax Preparer role prepares accurate tax returns for individuals and small businesses, delivers strong customer service, and stays current with tax regulations and laws. The position supports client compliance and helps clients achieve financial success.

Responsibilities

Tax Preparation

  • Prepare individual and small business tax returns accurately and efficiently.
  • Review financial records (e.g., income statements and documentation of expenditures) to determine required forms.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.

Customer Service

  • Provide timely, high-quality customer service by addressing client concerns and questions.
  • Conduct client interviews to gather information related to each client’s tax situation.
  • Explain tax return outcomes and provide tax planning advice.

Compliance and Accuracy

  • Stay updated on current tax laws and regulations through ongoing education and training.
  • Ensure returns are prepared in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Verify accuracy of data entered into tax software.

Documentation and Recordkeeping

  • Maintain organized and accurate records of client interactions and tax returns.
  • Ensure required documents are filed correctly and securely.
  • Keep client files up to date and follow up on missing information.

Training and Development

  • Participate in training sessions and continuing education to maintain professional credentials.
  • Stay informed about changes in tax laws and software updates.

Collaboration

  • Work with other tax professionals and office staff to support a seamless workflow.
  • Assist in mentoring and training junior staff members as needed.
  • Assist in marketing execution.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must have PTIN or be eligible to receive.

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in tax preparation.

Physical Requirements

  • Desk-based work for periods of time.
  • Some overtime and weekend work may be required, especially during tax season.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors; exposure to weather conditions is not expected.

Compensation & Work Status

  • Seasonal position.
  • FLSA status: Non-Exempt.
