Overview
This role is a player-coach Team Lead position within an accounting pod. You will run the day-to-day operations for a defined book of clients, manage a small team of bookkeepers and accountants, ensure high-quality deliverables, and serve as the first point of escalation for both client and team questions. You will also maintain a small personal client portfolio.
You will report to the Accounting Manager. The pod includes bookkeepers, junior accountants, and accountants, with partnership on more complex client work alongside Senior Accountants.
Responsibilities
- Lead a pod: Manage a team of bookkeepers and accountants assigned to a defined client portfolio; run weekly 1:1s and a weekly pod huddle.
- Review work quality: Review month-end deliverables from your team before they reach clients; provide clear, constructive feedback to support development.
- Own pod throughput: Balance assignments across the pod; spot capacity issues early and escalate to the Accounting Manager with options.
- First line of escalation: Address client questions, team blockers, and process questions; resolve what you can and escalate what needs attention.
- Carry your own portfolio: Own a small portfolio of clients personally to stay close to the work.
- Coach and develop the team: Develop bookkeepers into accountants and accountants into senior accountants; identify training gaps and close them.
- Partner with onboarding: Ensure new clients are received cleanly from the Onboarding team and that the pod has what it needs from day one.
- Maintain accuracy: Ensure pod projects, tasks, and statuses reflect reality at all times.
- Surface process improvements: Bring SOP gaps and workflow issues to the Accounting Manager with a recommended fix.
- Maintain team improvements: Conduct performance check-ins, development goals, and weekly pulse to stay current.
