Overview
This role involves supporting the payroll accounting function during a critical period on a temporary basis. The payroll team ensures accurate and timely employee payments, manages complex multi-entity payroll, maintains compliance, and builds scalable processes and documentation. The position requires immediate contribution to key reconciliations, journal entries, reporting deliverables, and Canadian payroll operations.
This is a remote position, with a preference for candidates located in Eastern or Central time zones to align with team working hours.
Responsibilities
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and record them in NetSuite
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations in Blackline, researching and resolving variances within 30 days
- Accurately reconcile and record payroll-related cash transactions
- Prepare monthly payroll accrual and actual payroll expense load files for the general ledger accounting team
- Process biweekly Canadian payroll for two legal entities, ensuring timely delivery and full compliance with statutory requirements
- Reconcile monthly benefits billing statements to internal payroll records, identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Support year-end reconciliations, compliance reviews, and other internal audit initiatives as needed
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in payroll accounting, including payroll operations and general ledger accounting
- Ability to quickly adapt and contribute in a new environment with minimal ramp-up time
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite and/or Blackline, or similar ERP and reconciliation platforms
- Solid understanding of payroll compliance, including US federal and state requirements; Canadian payroll experience is a strong plus
- Meticulous attention to detail and ownership of accuracy
- Clear and professional communication skills to respond to cross-functional requests promptly
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- CPA or CPP designation is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate ranges from $35 to $40 per hour, commensurate with experience and performance
