Overview
A well-established company in the home services industry is seeking a temporary Payroll Accountant to support their payroll accounting function during a critical period. This role involves working on key reconciliations, journal entries, and reporting deliverables, as well as supporting Canadian payroll operations. The position is remote but requires candidates to be located in Eastern or Central time zones to align with team working hours.
Responsibilities
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and record them in NetSuite
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations in Blackline, researching and resolving variances within 30 days
- Accurately reconcile and record payroll-related cash transactions
- Prepare monthly payroll accrual and actual payroll expense load files for the general ledger accounting team
- Process biweekly Canadian payroll for two legal entities, ensuring timely delivery and full compliance with statutory requirements
- Reconcile monthly benefits billing statements to internal payroll records, identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Support year-end reconciliations, compliance reviews, and other internal audit initiatives as needed
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in payroll accounting, including exposure to payroll operations and general ledger accounting
- Ability to quickly adapt and contribute in a new environment with minimal ramp-up time
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite and/or Blackline, or similar ERP and reconciliation platforms
- Solid understanding of payroll compliance, including US federal and state requirements; Canadian payroll experience is a strong plus
- High attention to detail and ownership of accuracy
- Clear and professional communication skills to respond to cross-functional requests promptly
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- CPA or CPP designation is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate ranges from $35 to $40 per hour, commensurate with experience and performance; compensation may vary based on geographic location
