Overview
This position is for a Treasury Collections Representative specializing in Tax and Accounts Receivable (T.A.R) within the Revenue and Risk Management Division of the Finance Department. The role involves managing complex collections related to accounts receivable such as police false alarms, damage claims, bus passes, hazardous material fees, ordinance violations, and improvement districts, as well as transaction privilege tax (TPT).
The position requires independent judgment and knowledge of bankruptcy administration, liens, skip tracing, and collection litigation.
Teleworking may be available after six months of employment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee bankruptcy claims processing, including reviewing court notices and preparing and filing proofs of claim accurately and timely.
- Negotiate damage claim settlements with insurance companies.
- Create and monitor payment plans.
- Assist with escalated collection calls.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of experience as a collector for a financial institution or loan company.
- Some college coursework in accounting, finance, or business administration.
- Ability to communicate professionally with the public.
- Ability to document debtor accounts using proper grammar.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA).
- Knowledge of City and State Code provisions for TPT and accounts receivable requirements.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four or more years of experience as a collector.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business.
- Four or more years of experience working with bankruptcy law.
- Four or more years of experience filing and releasing liens.
- Two or more years of experience using SAP for analyzing and posting accounting entries.
- Two or more years of experience using Tax Mantra for analyzing and posting accounting entries.
- Proficiency in Excel and Word.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $26.18 to $35.08 per hour.
- Hiring range: $26.18 to $31.82 per hour, based on skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

Location
This position is based in Phoenix, Arizona. Teleworking options may be available after six months.
