Overview
A growing technology company is seeking a Union Paymaster to process union payrolls accurately, compliantly, and on time within established service level agreements (SLAs). This remote role (open to candidates in the US and Canada) requires expertise in interpreting complex collective bargaining agreements and applying them correctly to payroll calculations, while maintaining thorough documentation and effective cross-functional communication.
Responsibilities
- Process union payrolls accurately and in compliance with union agreements within stated timelines and SLAs.
- Interpret and apply information from complex collective bargaining agreements, side letters, and mathematical rules to payroll processing.
- Ensure correct interpretation of union agreements; escalate issues to appropriate partners when formal interpretation is needed.
- Manually review and validate payroll calculations; identify discrepancies and make necessary corrections or overrides.
- Manage multiple payrolls and deadlines simultaneously; proactively prioritize workload.
- Maintain clear, well-documented notes in systems to communicate payroll status and decision rationale.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as Labor Relations, Customer Success, Payroll Operations, Tax Operations, and Product/Engineering to resolve issues efficiently and reduce repeat work.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs), knowledge sharing, and continuous process enhancements.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a multi-union payroll environment.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply union rules and working conditions in a production payroll context.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills across multiple channels.
- Basic proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) and aptitude for quickly learning new systems.
- Schedule flexibility to meet workload demands and client needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of entertainment union contracts such as SAG-AFTRA, DGA, IATSE, Teamsters, etc.
- Experience working in a scaling operations environment with evolving tools and processes.
- Track record of improving documentation standards and operational workflows.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $74,000 to $110,000 USD annually.
