Overview

This volunteer opportunity is offered through a nonprofit organization focused on creating social change via pro bono connections. The role involves providing tailored recommendations for bookkeeping categories, nonprofit financial reporting, and record-keeping best practices. The volunteer will also develop annotated sample scenarios to support the organization's first full tax preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Review current bookkeeping categories and financial records
  • Conduct walkthroughs with the bookkeeper
  • Deliver clear, actionable guidance for improving bookkeeping and reporting
  • Collaborate in regular walkthrough sessions
  • Provide step-by-step instructions to help staff implement recommendations and prepare for Form 990

Requirements

  • Experience in accounting, CPA, or financial audit
  • Skills in training and development

Impact

Improved bookkeeping and clear financial reporting will help protect funds and free staff time, enabling the organization to continue educational events and broker student–industry connections in sustainable forestry and natural resource programs in Oregon. Volunteer guidance will enhance financial stewardship and support scaling of career education and community service efforts.

Additional Information

  • The bookkeeper is engaged and leadership supports this work
  • Meetings can be scheduled on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons (PST)
  • Records, access, and scheduling support will be provided during interviews
