Overview

This hands-on, high-ownership role sits at the center of accounting operations. You will own a broad, end-to-end accounting scope and provide day-to-day workflow direction to the AP Specialist and AR Coordinator. The position ensures accurate, smoothly run accounting to support the organization’s financial operations.

Month-end close ownership is a core part of the role. You will document and build processes where they don’t yet exist, helping serve as the operational engine for clean financials.

You will report to the VP of Accounting and work alongside an AP Specialist and AR Coordinator. This is a fully remote role with occasional travel required.

Responsibilities

Month-End Close & General Ledger

  • Own a defined set of close tasks from Day 1 through Day 6 review
  • Prepare complex accruals, including inventory, trade spend, landed cost true-ups, prepaid amortization, interest accrual, and related items
  • Maintain operational processes that produce accurate, efficient accounting and support channel-level expense reporting
  • Audit existing processes and expense capture methods; identify and close gaps that prevent clean reporting
  • Own bill approvals within NetSuite

AP, AR & Cash

  • Manage the AP Specialist day-to-day by overseeing transaction accuracy, reviewing output, maintaining process flows, and serving as the first escalation point
  • Oversee AR in partnership with the coordinator, including cash application accuracy, deduction intake, and AR aging review
  • Maintain the Trade Spend Accrual Workpaper: calculate accruals by customer and program, post journal entries, and reconcile the accrual balance monthly
  • Process ACH, credit card payments, and wire transfers; maintain dual-authorization controls and disbursement documentation
  • Maintain the line of credit schedule in NetSuite, including monitoring borrowing base, processing draw requests and repayments, and supporting audit and lender reporting
  • Maintain interest and debt schedules, including monthly interest accruals, debt issuance cost amortization, and covenant compliance tracking
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all company accounts
  • Manage multi-currency transactions for international supplier payments; calculate and post FX gain/loss write-offs at period-end

Compliance, Tax & Audit

  • Primary preparer on audit PBC requests from external auditors, assembling workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting documentation to auditor standards
  • Collect 1099-K forms from payment processors annually and file 1099s
  • Maintain documentation consistent with the organization’s Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Manage sales tax nexus, return filings, and state registrations

Reporting & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build and maintain budget vs. actual reports by department; partner with budget owners (sales, ops, marketing) to explain variances and record accruals
  • Reconcile commission calculations for the Sales team

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in CPG, retail, distribution, or manufacturing
  • Full accrual close under US GAAP, including owning reconciliations and journal entries end-to-end
  • Demonstrated experience with inventory accounting, landed cost, and COGS in a product-based business
  • Trade spend and customer deduction experience, including building and maintaining accruals
  • Experience providing workflow direction to junior accounting staff, including reviewing work and owning outcomes
  • Ability to work independently: own deliverables, build and document processes, and be proactive
  • Clear communication skills, including translating accounting to non-finance colleagues
  • NetSuite experience strongly preferred
  • Deep experience with accounts payable systems and integration
  • Undergraduate degree or coursework in accounting, business, or finance

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • 1099 filing experience (1099-K, 1099-INT)
  • Knowledgeable in Avalara and sales tax compliance
  • Experience working in a lean, scrappy environment where process building is required, not just process follow-through
  • BILL Certification

Location

  • Remote with minimal travel
