Overview
This role is for a senior technical subject matter expert who can independently lead complex closed-end private equity and real estate fund relationships. The position involves interpreting governing documents, translating bespoke economics into controlled operating processes, reviewing sophisticated calculations, resolving technical accounting and allocation matters, and serving as the escalation point for clients and internal partners across operations, implementation, audit, and technology.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical accounting and administration model for complex closed-end private equity and real estate, including master-feeder, parallel, blocker, co-investment structures, and SPVs.
- Lead the review of quarterly and annual closes, NAV packages, capital activity, investor allocations, management fees, carried interest, financial statements, and partner capital reporting.
- Interpret limited partnership agreements, side letters, subscription documents, and fee letters; convert provisions into documented calculation logic, operational controls, and review procedures.
- Validate complex distribution waterfalls and carried-interest models, including whole-fund/European and deal-by-deal/American structures, preferred returns, catch-ups, hurdles, escrows, clawbacks, recycling, and recallable distributions.
- Act as the final technical escalation point for allocation, valuation, consolidation, foreign currency, debt, fee, equalization, partner-capital, and financial-reporting issues.
- Lead complex new-fund implementations and conversions by designing books-and-records architecture, chart of accounts, entity mapping, data migration, historical roll-forward, waterfall requirements, and control ownership.
- Partner directly with controllers, CFOs, general partners, auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, valuation specialists, lenders, and technology providers.
- Coach reviewers and fund-accounting teams; establish technically rigorous workpapers, review standards, exception thresholds, and evidence of control performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline; CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive fund accounting experience focused on closed-end private equity and real estate or similarly complex alternative-investment structures.
- At least 3 years operating as a product SME or implementation lead.
- Experience managing a global hybrid team.
- Demonstrated ownership of funds with bespoke waterfalls, multiple vehicles, investor-specific economics, leverage, foreign currency, and complex valuation or consolidation considerations.
- Experience leading audits and responding directly to sophisticated client, auditor, and legal-document questions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to clearly explain complex economics and accounting conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification strongly preferred.
