Overview

The organization is seeking a Bookkeeper to maintain day-to-day financial records. This role works closely with the Staff Accountant. Responsibilities include entering transactions, processing payments, reconciling accounts, and supporting accurate month-end close.

Because the organization is a nonprofit, proper coding of income and expenses is especially important. Funds may be received for specific programs or grants, and the bookkeeping must reflect how money was spent.

This is a full-time, fully remote position. Availability during US Eastern business hours is required.

Responsibilities

  • Enter and categorize transactions in the accounting system
  • Code expenses to the correct programme, grant, or funding source
  • Process accounts payable and prepare vendor payments for approval
  • Record incoming funds, including contributions and grant payments
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
  • Maintain receipts, invoices, and supporting documentation in an organised, findable manner
  • Enter payroll data and keep payroll records current
  • Prepare routine reports and provide records to the Staff Accountant for month-end close
  • Flag items that look incorrect or do not reconcile rather than forcing them to balance

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of bookkeeping or accounts experience
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar accounting software
  • Solid Excel skills
  • Accurate, methodical approach with strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable asking questions when unsure rather than guessing
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting
  • Available during US Eastern business hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nonprofit bookkeeping experience, particularly coding to grants or restricted funds
  • Experience with accounts payable approval workflows
  • Bookkeeping certification such as AIPB or QuickBooks ProAdvisor

  • Salary: $52,200 per year
  • Medical insurance, with the employer covering 50% of the employee premium

  • 10 days of paid time off per year, plus public holidays
  • Fully remote
  • Equipment provided
