Overview

This role involves supporting schools in maintaining accurate financial records and managing their accounting workflows using specialized software. Reporting to the Vice President of Client Experience, the position serves as the accounting subject-matter expert and escalation point for implementation and client success teams.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the accounting expert and escalation resource for implementation and client success teams.
  • Develop playbooks, documentation, and repeatable processes to scale accounting support functions, including defining responsibilities for Customer Success Managers.
  • Diagnose recurring issues to determine if they stem from configuration gaps, training gaps, or product gaps, and communicate findings to the product team.
  • Translate schools' accounting requirements into correct software configurations, collaborating with implementation teams on complex or non-standard setups.
  • Review and validate school account configurations to identify setup errors and edge cases before they cause downstream problems.
  • Advise schools on appropriate accounting treatments and help identify incorrect current approaches.
  • Support monthly account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies for school clients.
  • Assist school clients with audit preparation.
  • Analyze client account mapping and identify opportunities for improvement aligned with best practices.
  • Participate in regular team and company meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in public accounting, bookkeeping, outsourced accounting services, or a related accounting profession.
  • Experience with software systems functioning as subsidiary ledgers for organizations, ideally billing systems.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with high attention to detail, accuracy, and responsiveness.
  • Skilled in analyzing financial data and identifying discrepancies.
  • Comfortable explaining accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Good judgment regarding when to advise, escalate, or challenge a school's accounting approach.
  • Experience with financial systems such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar.
  • CPA license is a plus but not required.
  • Growth mindset and willingness to contribute to a rapidly growing team.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous situations and build structure where none exists.
