Controller (Remote)

Overview

This fully remote role involves serving as a Controller and key financial steward for a portfolio of clients. You will manage and safeguard clients’ financial resources, oversee financial reporting and compliance, and strengthen internal controls. The position also includes leading and mentoring accounting staff within a remote shared services environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure the accuracy and integrity of clients’ financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls.
• Own the full accounting function, including corporate finance, GAAP adherence, and tax compliance.
• Lead strategic financial planning by translating data into actionable insights aligned with client goals.
• Build budgets, forecasts, and monthly financial reports with business alignment.
• Manage and guide complex financial projects, ensuring alignment with broader strategic objectives.
• Interpret and apply new accounting standards; serve as a content expert and advisor.
• Lead the team to deliver assigned work on time, meeting deadlines and driving quality.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, supporting development and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with leadership to identify and implement new service opportunities for existing clients.
• Drive innovation in financial systems and processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and risk mitigation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• Minimum 8-10 years accounting experience
• CPA highly preferred
• Public Accounting experience highly preferred
• Experience in small privately-held, entrepreneurial companies as Controller or Assistant Controller
• Deep and solid knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, etc.)
• Strong ethics and uncompromising integrity
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a remote team effectively

Preferred Qualifications

• Public Accounting experience highly preferred
• CPA highly preferred

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $120,000 - $130,000

• Note: This is a W2, full-time, 40-hour/week position. Two short assessments will be included in the recruiting process, and a live accounting test via Teams Screen Share is required; passing this test is mandatory for the position.
