Controller (Remote)

Overview

This role is a key part of a fully remote organization providing CFO Advisory, outsourced accounting, and HR services. Responsibilities include owning clients’ accounting outcomes while leading and mentoring a shared services team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure the accuracy and integrity of clients’ financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls.
• Take ownership of the entire accounting function, including corporate finance, GAAP adherence, and tax compliance.
• Translate data into actionable insights to support strategic financial planning aligned to client goals.
• Lead the creation of budgets, forecasts, and monthly financial reports with a focus on business alignment.
• Manage and guide complex financial projects to ensure alignment with broader strategic objectives.
• Interpret and apply new accounting standards, serving as a firm-wide content expert and advisor.
• Lead team delivery to ensure timely completion, adherence to deadlines, and high-quality execution.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, supporting development and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with leadership to identify and implement new service opportunities for existing clients.
• Drive innovation in financial systems and processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and risk mitigation across clients.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• Minimum 8-10 years accounting experience
• CPA highly preferred
• Public Accounting experience highly preferred
• Experience in small privately-held, entrepreneurial companies as Controller or Assistant Controller
• Deep and solid knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, etc.)
• Uncompromising sense of integrity and ethics
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including the ability to motivate and guide a remote team effectively

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying new accounting standards
• Track record of translating complex financial data for diverse audiences

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $120,000 - $130,000

Additional hiring and testing details:

• This is a W2, full-time, 40-hour/week position.
• Recruiting includes two short assessments; results are considered as part of the overall application.
• A live accounting test via Teams Screen Share will be used to confirm accounting skills.
• Passing this test is a mandatory requirement.
