Overview
This role involves working on the Credit team responsible for managing the end-to-end risk of the largest and most complex users. The team uses underwriting expertise and data-driven heuristics to make informed decisions throughout the user lifecycle, from onboarding to loss recovery. The goal is to enable growth by making confident, calibrated decisions on high-exposure users.
The position is for a Credit Risk Analyst Commercial Underwriter on the North America Strategy Risk team. The analyst will underwrite and manage a portfolio of the largest and fastest-growing businesses to support growth objectives while minimizing credit risk. This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Legal, Treasury, and Finance teams.
This role is assigned to West Coast hours, with a strong preference for candidates located in the Pacific time zone.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate business models and financial statements of top merchants, ranging from venture-backed startups to established institutions
- Provide tailored credit risk recommendations that mitigate exposure while facilitating partner growth
- Develop a deep understanding of risk across various industries, geographies, and operating models to manage the portfolio effectively
- Deliver insights to support senior management decisions, including onboarding strategies and merchant pricing analysis
- Support refinement of tools and processes to meet key performance indicators such as credit loss targets and portfolio coverage metrics
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to support merchants globally
Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant experience in commercial credit underwriting, financial risk modeling, and cash flow forecasting
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related fields
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and ability to evaluate financial statements and business models across industries
- Ability to translate business and financial data into cohesive narratives outlining credit risks and mitigation strategies
- Strong written, verbal, and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable interacting with CFOs and CEOs of top merchants
- Empathy for entrepreneurs and motivation to solve problems to empower them
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical expertise including experience with SQL
- Strong data visualization skills and passion for data analysis
- Experience working in technology or other fast-paced, high-growth environments
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual US base salary range: $121,600 - $220,600
- Salary range may vary based on experience, qualifications, and location

Work Location & Hybrid Work Policy
- This role is available either in an office or remotely (defined as 35+ miles or 56+ km from an office)
- Office-assigned employees are expected to spend at least 50% of their time in the local office or with users each month
- Remote employees are expected to work primarily from home but may attend team meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events in the office
- The organization does not cover relocation costs for remote work
