Overview
This Financial Analyst role supports dependable financial analysis to inform planning and decision-making. Responsibilities include maintaining reports, comparing actual results to expectations, and communicating key performance drivers.
Analyses and financial models should remain understandable after the immediate task is complete. Work should use clear labels, documented assumptions, reasonable checks, and organized formulas so another reviewer can easily validate the output and reduce the risk of unnoticed errors during future updates.
A typical analysis begins with identifying differences between plan and actual performance, determining which accounts or operating factors drove the movement, verifying underlying information, and communicating results with appropriate context.
Responsibilities
- Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, and other financial or operating measures to identify performance drivers.
- Prepare recurring financial reports, management summaries, and ad hoc analyses for stakeholder review.
- Improve recurring financial reporting processes while maintaining appropriate review controls.
- Perform trend, sensitivity, and scenario analysis to show how changing assumptions may affect expected results.
- Support KPI reporting by connecting financial measures with relevant operational context.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting by organizing assumptions, updating schedules, and checking calculations.
Requirements
- Foundational understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and basic accounting principles.
- Willingness to question inconsistent inputs and resolve or escalate discrepancies before completing an analysis.
- Ability to compare results, identify material variances, and explain the drivers behind a financial change.
- Clear written communication skills, including the ability to summarize financial information for non-specialist stakeholders.
- Comfort using Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet software for calculations and organized financial schedules.
Variance analysis should go beyond stating whether a number is higher or lower. Where information allows, you will identify operational or financial drivers behind the movement and explain whether the difference appears temporary, recurring, assumption-driven, or in need of further review.
