Overview
This role is a Financial Analyst position supporting budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis of business performance. The work focuses on careful handling of financial information and translating results into practical explanations.
You will often begin by analyzing differences between plan and actual performance—identifying which accounts or operating factors drove the movement, validating underlying information, and communicating findings with appropriate context. Forecasting requires making assumptions visible and presenting alternative scenarios when a single estimate could create a false sense of precision.
Responsibilities
- Compare actual financial results with budgets, forecasts, and prior periods, and explain meaningful variances.
- Review source information and validate calculations before financial analysis is distributed or relied upon.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting by organizing assumptions, updating schedules, and checking calculations.
- Perform trend, sensitivity, and scenario analysis to show how changing assumptions may affect expected results.
- Document model logic, assumptions, and analytical methods so work remains understandable and reusable.
- Prepare recurring financial reports, management summaries, and ad hoc analyses for stakeholder review.
- For variance analysis, go beyond stating whether a number is higher or lower by identifying operational or financial drivers where information allows, and explaining whether differences appear temporary, recurring, assumption-driven, or in need of further review.
Requirements
- Ability to compare results, identify material variances, and explain drivers behind financial changes.
- Willingness to question inconsistent inputs and resolve or escalate discrepancies before completing an analysis.
- Foundational understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and basic accounting principles.
- Ability to manage assigned priorities independently while collaborating through digital tools in a remote environment.
- Clear written communication, including the ability to summarize financial information for non-specialist stakeholders.
- Good judgment when financial information is incomplete or inconsistent, including investigating the source, documenting limitations, and avoiding presenting uncertain results as more precise than they are.
