Overview

This role is a hands-on finance leadership position with end-to-end ownership of the finance function. The work includes running the monthly close, ensuring GAAP compliance, owning revenue recognition and SaaS metrics, managing tax and compliance, and maintaining audit readiness. You will perform the work directly with AI leverage and support from a fractional CFO.

This position blends controller-level responsibilities with strategic finance. The President currently owns financial strategy and is seeking a partner who can expand into that scope over time by ensuring the fundamentals are accurate, complete, and audit-ready.

Responsibilities

Own the close and accounting operations

  • Run the monthly, quarterly, and annual close end-to-end, including accruals, reconciliations, journal entries, and flux analysis.
  • Maintain full GAAP compliance and continuously drive audit readiness, including coordination with external auditors.
  • Own day-to-day accounting operations: AP/AR, payroll coordination, expense management (Ramp), and banking.
  • Design and maintain automated workflows between billing and accounting platforms (Stripe, Chargebee, QuickBooks), reducing manual reconciliation and improving accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, technical accounting documentation, and process documentation that supports external audit or third-party diligence without disruption.

Own revenue recognition and SaaS metrics

  • Own revenue recognition under ASC 606 across subscription, usage-based, and hybrid pricing models.
  • Maintain defensible, documented definitions of ARR, NRR, GRR, and churn, reconciled between billing systems, the GL, and BI reporting.
  • Produce the monthly reporting package, including financials, SaaS metrics, variance analysis, and departmental spend.

Own tax and compliance

  • Own tax-related responsibilities, including sales tax compliance via Anrok, coordination of federal and state filings, and strategic tax planning.
  • Ensure alignment with banking, insurance, and regulatory requirements; manage documentation and reporting obligations.
  • Review and strengthen internal controls as the organization scales.

Keep the organization diligence-ready at all times

  • Build and maintain a comprehensive, organized financial data room that is current and accurate to support audits, board reporting, fundraising, and strategic reviews.
  • Streamline reporting workflows so key documents, models, and disclosures are always board- and investor-ready.
  • Improve reporting quality, documentation, controls, and financial discipline to elevate the finance function from founder-grade to institutional-grade while maintaining the speed required in a high-growth environment.

Grow into strategic finance

  • Partner with the President and fractional CFO on budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and the board financial model.
  • Deliver analysis that informs decisions across hiring plans, pricing, CAC and payback, vendor negotiations, and resource allocation.
  • Serve as a financial thought partner to leaders across Sales, Marketing, CS, and Operations, building financial accountability.
  • Translate operating performance into financial insights by connecting sales activity, customer behavior, pricing, and hiring decisions to financial outcomes.
  • Review and update customer cohort data, identifying anomalies and either resolving them or building a clear narrative around them.
  • Build a finance function whose numbers, reporting, and supporting documentation earn trust from management, the Board, external auditors, lenders, and sophisticated third parties.

Operate AI-first

  • Use AI to automate reconciliation, accelerate the close, and draft analysis—supporting a finance function that operates with minimal headcount.
  • Partner with the internal GTM AI team to design and ship automations and AI agents for finance workflows, bringing finance depth while collaborating on agent buildout.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including full ownership of a monthly close at a SaaS or technology company.
  • CPA, public accounting foundation, or equivalent depth in GAAP; demonstrated expertise with ASC 606 applied to subscription and usage-based revenue.
  • Experience operating above the controller level (FP&A, board reporting, forecasting, or supporting a fundraise, audit, or M&A process).
  • Proficiency with the following tools or close equivalents: QuickBooks, Stripe, Chargebee, Ramp, Anrok, HubSpot.
  • Hands-on operating style combined with strategic hunger—willing to run finance rather than only report on it.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous, high-ownership environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Not specified.

AI Fluency Requirement (Hard Requirement)

  • Hiring is at the “Adoptive” level or above on Zapier’s AI fluency framework. This means moving beyond one-off prompting to building repeatable AI-powered workflows.
  • Strong signals include an automated reconciliation pipeline, an AI-assisted close checklist that runs itself, and a reporting package that drafts its own first pass.
  • Ability to partner with the internal GTM AI team and “speak their language,” with a willingness to share real artifacts. “I use ChatGPT regularly” is not the bar.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation: attractive salary and benefits package.
  • Fully remote work with flexible hours.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays.
  • Opportunities for professional growth.
  • Equity options.
  • Collaborative environment and cutting-edge projects leveraging AI and advanced technologies.
