  • Deliver a clean, on-time monthly inventory close; provide Finance leadership with a clear read on what’s driving COGS and gross margin, including reserves, landed and average costs, and purchase price variances.
  • Maintain audit readiness and strong inventory controls, including reviewing journal entries and reconciliations, overseeing physical counts, supporting quarterly reviews and the annual audit, and documenting conclusions on complex transactions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of accountants by setting priorities, reviewing work, and ensuring accurate, timely results.
  • Improve inventory accounting processes by partnering with Operations, Finance, and systems teams to strengthen data accuracy, reduce manual work, and use automation and AI-enabled tools where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in inventory and cost accounting, ideally within a consumer products, retail, manufacturing, or direct-to-consumer business.
  • Hands-on knowledge of inventory valuation, COGS, landed costs, reserves, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and SOX controls in a public company environment.
  • Experience leading and developing accountants; ability to balance hands-on work with team management.
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems and inventory management applications.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and explain drivers of financial results to the Controller, FP&A, and Operations partners.
  • Track record of improving accounting processes through better systems, automation, and data-driven workflows.
  • Ability to make judgment calls on gray-area inventory issues while keeping the close on track when priorities shift.
