Overview
This role is responsible for keeping SaaS and payments operations running safely, efficiently, and profitably. You will monitor payments health, identify risks and optimization opportunities, and communicate clear recommendations to the Head of FinTech.
You will partner cross-functionally with FinTech leadership, Legal, Engineering, Product, and Finance to reduce risk, support payments optimization, and help advance the payments roadmap.

Responsibilities
- Monitor the health of payments operations by reviewing operational and payments reports regularly, flagging risks and anomalies, and providing recommendations with clear next steps
- Support payments optimization by analyzing BPS, effective rates, interchange, ACH economics, and vendor pricing to identify trends and cost reduction opportunities
- Own project and risk management across payments operations, including tracking open items, dependencies, and priorities; keep stakeholders aligned and initiatives moving
- Use AI tools to monitor and help maintain compliance with card network rules, PCI-DSS, SOC 2, BSA/AML, and GDPR/CCPA while staying current without manual overhead
- Build and maintain payments and risk dashboards tracking key metrics, including BPS, effective rates, ACH cap impact, Amex pass-through, attrition sensitivity, and compliance health
- Maintain compliance documentation, risk assessments, vendor scorecards, policies, and operational playbooks
- Facilitate technical partners and onboarding: serve as the main point of contact for new payment processors and gateways; review API documentation, verify that data structures map to business needs, and coordinate sandbox testing and certification alongside Engineering
- Bridge the gap for Engineering by translating vendor payment logic, error codes, and processing rules into clear operational requirements for the development team
- Own state money transmitter license tracking by maintaining accurate filing calendars, renewal requirements, and records in coordination with Legal (dedicated work stream)
- Partner with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Product, Legal, Finance, Marketing, Sales, Customer Success) to identify risks, dependencies, and opportunities and coordinate resolution and mitigation
- Prepare internal reporting on payments operations and risk metrics for leadership review
- Manage chargeback and dispute operations by monitoring rates, identifying fraud patterns, coordinating responses, and escalating threshold breaches to the Head of FinTech
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in payments operations, payments strategy, or a related field in a SaaS or fintech environment
- Technical literacy: clear understanding of the modern payment processing ecosystem and how systems communicate; comfortable reading API documentation and understanding how data flows between platforms
- Execution-oriented approach: move fast, figure things out, and make recommendations without waiting for perfect information
- Data and tools: strong analytical skills with advanced Excel or Google Sheets required; comfortable learning and navigating software platforms
- AI-native workflow: actively use AI tools for compliance monitoring, drafting operational documentation, synthesizing regulatory updates, and accelerating analysis (able to provide concrete examples)
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, SOC 2, BSA/AML, GDPR/CCPA) and comfort operating in regulated environments
- Developer liaison experience: proven collaboration with product or engineering teams; comfortable reading vendor documentation to explain business logic and requirements to developers
- Low-ego, cross-functional collaborator comfortable working with Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Product
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, or related field required
