Overview
A growing energy technology organization is seeking a Pricing & Deal Strategy Analyst to support its commercial decision-making as it scales impact at the grid edge. This role involves building sophisticated financial models and pricing strategies for complex utility contracts and emerging products. The analyst will collaborate closely with Sales, Product, Product Marketing, and Finance teams to ensure proposals are competitive, sustainable, and aligned with grid optimization goals.
Responsibilities
Pricing Strategy & Grid Value Modeling
- Develop and maintain advanced financial models to evaluate pricing for new products, bundles, services, and multi-year utility contracts.
- Collaborate with Product, Analytics, Product Marketing, and Market Development teams to weight pricing models based on device-specific value streams such as peak shedding, frequency regulation, and localized grid relief.
- Analyze utility tariff structures and regulatory filings to ensure offerings remain competitive against traditional utility cost-of-service models and "bring your own device" (BYOD) incentives.
- Define pricing structures for upcoming features and service lines, aligning with long-term margin goals and market expectations.
Deal Strategy & Risk Assessment
- Lead analysis for non-standard deals, modeling "what-if" scenarios including volume-based pricing and performance-based incentives.
- Develop sensitivity and risk models to assess commercial risk in performance contracts, simulating weather scenarios, grid event frequencies, and device participation rates to protect margins.
- Analyze proposals within the broader business context and maintain a competitive library of industry benchmarks to inform "Price-to-Win" strategies for large-scale utility solicitations.
- Support the Deal Desk by providing data-backed rationale to help leadership understand trade-offs in deal terms, concessions, or shared-savings arrangements.
Commercial Insights & Governance
- Conduct post-mortem analyses on existing contracts to compare realized deal performance against historical benchmarks, identifying trends in discounting and yield.
- Maintain the standard price book and discounting logic within Salesforce and BillingPlatform.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual pricing spreadsheets into repeatable tools for Sales self-service on standard deals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 5-8 years of experience in Pricing, Strategic Finance, or Commercial Operations, preferably within B2B SaaS, Utility, or Renewable Energy technology sectors.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills are essential; experience with SQL for data extraction is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with utility business models, demand response, or distributed energy resources (DERs) is a significant plus.
- Strong strategic intuition with the ability to translate technical product roadmaps into logical commercial frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex financial and risk concepts clearly to executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
