  • Capital strategy & forecasting: Partner with Treasury, Actuarial, and Corporate Finance to develop long-term capital allocation models, stress test statutory balance sheets, and evaluate strategic capital-raising or risk-mitigation initiatives.
  • Accounting & transaction accounting: Oversee statutory accounting treatment, collateral requirements (including LOCs and trust accounts), and financial reporting entries associated with complex reinsurance contracts and intercompany arrangements.

Regulatory Engagement & Audit Oversight

  • Regulatory interfacing & filings: Interface with state departments of insurance (DOIs) and insurance commissioners on reinsurance agreements, captive operations, Form D filings, and statutory capital plans.

  • Cross-functional integration: Collaborate with Actuarial, Underwriting, Legal, Finance, Tax, and Claims teams to align reinsurance terms, claims recovery procedures, and capital strategies with operational capabilities and corporate goals.

Requirements

  • Hands-on execution: Proven transaction experience and ability to execute in real-world settings; collaborative leadership is required.
  • Reinsurance & capital expertise: 8+ years of progressive experience in reinsurance, capital management, corporate finance, or risk transfer, with demonstrated track record designing and placing complex reinsurance structures.
  • Captive & affiliate structuring: Hands-on experience structuring and/or managing captive insurance entities, intercompany reinsurance transactions, or affiliate risk-pooling mechanisms.
  • Cross-industry background: Experience in Health Insurance, Property & Casualty (P&C), Life, or Reinsurance Brokerage/Underwriting is accepted and valued.
  • Statutory capital & accounting mastery: Thorough understanding of statutory accounting principles (SAP), RBC mechanics, statutory surplus management, and NAIC regulatory frameworks.
  • Regulatory & audit interfacing: Demonstrated track record engaging state insurance regulators, managing financial examinations, and securing approval for regulatory filings (including Form D intercompany agreements).
  • Collaborative leadership & negotiation: Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills; ability to build consensus across internal finance/legal teams and external brokers, reinsurers, and regulators.
