Overview
A finance team is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to support month-end close, financial reporting, and audit readiness. This role emphasizes the use of AI tools to streamline workflows, enhance data insights, and improve overall finance operations. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about integrating AI solutions to make accounting processes smarter and more efficient.
Responsibilities
- Manage assigned areas of month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Prepare and maintain accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve variances, ensuring proper cutoff and period recognition
- Utilize AI tools to detect anomalies, flag outliers in large datasets, and accelerate the close process
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger using Sage Intacct
- Support preparation of standard financial statements and ad hoc reports for finance leadership
- Leverage AI to automate data gathering, speed report generation, and ensure consistency across reports
- Contribute to external audit support by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and documentation
- Use AI to organize audit support efficiently, draft initial responses, and improve audit turnaround while ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Maintain strong internal controls and documentation to support year-round audit readiness
- Review accounts payable activity and expense postings from integrated systems (e.g., Routable, Concur) into Sage Intacct
- Apply AI-assisted reviews to identify unusual spending patterns, coding inconsistencies, or policy exceptions
- Ensure expenses are properly coded, approved, and recorded in compliance with company policy and U.S. GAAP
- Collaborate with accounting assistants to resolve vendor, coding, and approval issues
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in account mappings, classifications, and reporting structures
- Apply AI tools and prompt engineering to automate repetitive accounting workflows such as data extraction, reconciliation matching, and variance analysis
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve controls, and enhance reporting, including evaluating AI-powered solutions
- Support finance leadership with system enhancements, integrations, and best practices, including piloting AI-driven automation
- Share AI knowledge and effective workflows to improve team-wide efficiency
- Manage multiple priorities concurrently and communicate proactively about timelines
- Collaborate with the team to execute projects and meet deadlines
- Deliver high-quality work that instills confidence across finance leadership and internal stakeholders
- Think strategically about the impact of accounting work on broader business performance and financial health
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process enhancements
- Perform other duties as assigned to support role deliverables
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and month-end close processes
- Hands-on experience with a mid-market ERP system; Sage Intacct strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet close deadlines
- Proficiency with AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) and demonstrated ability to write effective prompts to streamline accounting and finance tasks; active and confident AI use is expected
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables

Preferred Qualifications
- Public accounting experience and/or CPA certification (or CPA-eligible)

- Experience with integrated expense or accounts payable platforms such as Concur or Routable
Travel Requirements
- Occasional travel within the United States as needed, less than 10% expected
