Overview

This role is fully remote within the continental United States. It involves acting as the actuarial voice for insurance rate filings that use AI-driven validation evidence for property and casualty rating.

Use of AI data in insurance pricing entails regulatory review by state departments of insurance. When a carrier intends to use this data in its rates, questions and/or objections may be raised by both the carrier’s actuaries and state regulators—some predictable, others not yet fully answered. In this position, you will help ensure submissions are supported with rigorous validation materials and can withstand regulator scrutiny.

Responsibilities

  • Own and defend filing evidence
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce submission materials for each attribute and score used in rating, including model memos, validation and accuracy metrics, and actuarial exhibits.
    • Document and maintain what each state requires for model validation, including state-by-state confidentiality and trade secret treatments, ensuring submission exhibits satisfy the NAIC checklist for model filings.
    • Translate model outputs into filing-ready evidence, including model validation metrics, coverage rates, distributional analysis, bias and fairness testing, and by-state breakdowns.
    • Lead analytical responses to regulator objections in coordination with regulatory affairs on strategy, framing, and submission; join department of insurance calls to explain methodology and results directly.
  • Manage filing administration
    • Create and maintain SERFF accounts.
    • Keep accurate records of all filing materials and exchanges.
  • Work directly with customers
    • Advise which attributes are filing-ready and which may carry approval risk; build supporting materials for GTM teams and customers ahead of time.
    • Partner with carrier actuarial and pricing teams on how to implement the data within rating plans.
    • Collaborate with pre-sales to support data tests and lift analyses demonstrating predictive value, and translate results into filing-usable evidence.
  • Continuously improve the filing process
    • Build reusable validation templates and exhibits so each new carrier program requires less effort than the prior one.
    • Define product requirements for new products and scores prior to release to ensure they are “filing ready” immediately upon release.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of property and casualty actuarial experience, with hands-on exposure to pricing, ratemaking, or rate filings.
  • ACAS or FCAS credentialing strongly preferred; candidates with substantial ratemaking and filing experience will be considered.
  • Experience preparing actuarial exhibits for rate filings and responding to regulator objections.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or a related field.

Skills

  • Ability to explain carrier-led rate filing processes to non-actuaries clearly.
  • Comfort working with predictive model output, including GLMs, gradient boosting, and associated validation statistics.
  • Experience working with large claims and exposure data using SQL, R, or Python.
  • Ability to write technical documentation a regulator will accept, minimizing rounds of objections.
  • Client-facing communication skills; steady and effective on calls with carrier actuarial leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at an actuarial consultancy or directly at a carrier supporting carrier rate filings across multiple states and carriers.
  • Experience with catastrophe or property peril models, or with imagery-derived and AI-derived rating variables.
  • Prior regulator-side ratemaking review experience.
  • Familiarity with SERFF and how filings move in practice.
